Are runes demonic? What the old sources show
Runes are the writing of the old Germanic languages. The hands that preserved their poems wrote Christ into the same lines. The Norwegian poem rhymes him into its couplet about hail, and every Icelandic stanza ends with a Latin gloss. Whoever copied these texts saw letters worth keeping, not a rival power. What frightens people came much later, and it has an exact date: 1908.
Where this comes from
first appearance in print Guido von List, Das Geheimnis der Runen · 1908
The modern fear begins here, as an occult system. One detail almost nobody prints: von List’s row is not the Elder Futhark. It has eighteen signs, built on the Younger Futhark with two added. The twenty-four runes of this site are not that row, and the difference is not an excuse. It is precision.
What the poems say
The poems themselves are the answer here. The Norwegian one rhymes Christ into its couplet about hail, and every Icelandic stanza ends with a Latin gloss. What each rune means in them is gathered here, rune by rune.
