The meaning
Ehwaz is the horse: two beings moving as one, carried forward on a trust that runs both ways. It is the bond where neither simply obeys: the rider who guides and the horse who consents, each useless without the other. It is the rune of true partnership, proven over long roads rather than fine words. Ehwaz is progress made together, loyalty measured in miles. It asks who you are moving with, and whether the trust between you can actually carry the weight you keep putting on it.
Where it comes from
A northern warrior’s horse shared his fame in life and very often his grave in death. The two were buried together, still a pair. And Odin, the highest of the gods, rode Sleipnir, the eight-legged horse that could carry him between the worlds of the living and the dead, across the one border no one crosses alone. That is the heart of Ehwaz. The right companion does not just travel with you. They carry you where your own strength would never have reached, and you do the same for them.
