Laguz
water·intuition·the deep
Laguz comes when the mind goes quiet and something deeper already knows.
The meaning
Laguz is water: the lake, the tide, the dream. It is everything that moves beneath the surface of thinking, where logic cannot follow. This is the rune of intuition and feeling, of the deep currents that carry a life whether or not you can chart them. It gathers where the way forward is felt rather than reasoned: a pull you cannot fully explain, a dream worth listening to, a situation better left fluid a while longer. Water always finds the way down to the sea: not by forcing a single path, but by refusing to insist on one.
Where it comes from
To the old poets the sea was the road of ships and the roof of the fish: vast, generous, and utterly without mercy, all at once. The northern sailors crossed open ocean with no maps and no instruments, reading their way by the pattern of the waves, the flight of birds, the colour of the water and the wheel of the stars. They trusted a knowing older than any chart. Laguz honours that oldest navigation, the kind done not by calculation but by reading the deep, and arriving anyway.
