The meaning
Jera is the year and its harvest: the turning of the seasons, the slow return of what was sown. It marks effort finally bearing fruit, patience quietly paying off, a cycle coming round to meet you. This is a hopeful rune, but on the land’s terms, not yours. Everything ripens when it ripens. Jera does not promise a miracle. It promises that honest work, given time, comes back to you. The wheel is already turning your way. Your only task is to keep tending, and not to dig up the seed to check.
Where it comes from
Jera meant a good year: a harvest large enough to carry a family through the winter alive. In the old North that was not a small thing. It was the difference between spring and a grave. Kings were judged by the harvests of their reign, and a run of bad years could cost a ruler his throne, because the land’s luck was believed to run through him. The rune’s two halves chase one another like the turning seasons, each becoming the other. Nothing is rushed, and nothing that was truly planted is ever finally lost.
